View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Rita A. (Mendoza) Joly-Langfield, 88, of Somerset, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Jacintha F. and Rita (Silvera) Mendoza, she was the wife of the late Dr. William Langfield and Paul E. Joly.
Mrs. Joly-Langfield worked as a receptionist and secretary in the offices of Dr. Thomas Clark and Dr. Joseph Medeiros for twenty years before retiring in 1983. While working for the doctors, she also worked for the Head Start program, assisting teachers with children learning English as a second language.
Rita was very active in her community and as a communicant of Saint Thomas Moore Church in Somerset. She was a member of Saint Thomas Moore retirees, the choir, Adoration Society, Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Somerset Village Seniors, AARP, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Rita enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with family.
She leaves a daughter, Mary Lou Bessette and her husband Vincent of Tiverton, RI; a son, Paul R. Joly and his wife Judy of Dighton, MA; four grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Paul, Jr., and Kevin; six great-grandchildren, Morgan, Sean, Milan, Brody, Lauren and Matthew; and by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Kasher, Sally Mendoza, Florence Lowney, Thomas, Leonard, Alfonse, Vasco, Clovis and Joseph Mendoza.
Funeral Information
Her funeral service will be held Friday, April 3, 2009, at 8:00AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Saint Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 2, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
