View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Barbara M. (Sample) Harrell, 81, formerly of New Bedford died after a long illness Wednesday, November 30, 2005 in Our Lady's Haven where she had lived for the last 10 years. She was the former wife of the late Howard B. Harrell.
Born December 6, 1923 in New Bedford the daughter of the late Henry F. and Bessie (Warburton) Sample, she lived most of her life in New Bedford. She also lived briefly in California and Waco, Texas. She was a former member of the Grace Episcopal Church, New Bedford.
Ms. Harrell was a graduate of New Bedford High School Class of 1942 as well as the Framingham Teacher's College. She was a home economics teacher at the New Bedford Vocational School before her retirement in 1972. She was very active in her youth and enjoyed activities such as hiking. She also spent summers on Missions with the Navaho Indians in Arizona.
She is survived by a son, Howard F. Harrell and his wife Nancy of Maryland; two brothers, Randell F. Sample and his wife Ruth of Sun City, FL and Russell W. Sample and his wife Johanna of Killington, VT ; three grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 9:00 AM from the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM in Grace Episcopal Church, New Bedford. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
