FALL RIVER, MA – Philip R. Swanson, 78, of Fall River, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Stanley and Aldora E. (Fairweather) Swanson, He was the husband of Margaret L. (Biello) Swanson, with whom he shared a thirty-nine year marriage.

Raised by his late stepmother, Olive (Cournoyer) Swanson, he served his country during the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a self-employed painter for over forty years, retiring in 1994. Mr. Swanson was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Parish in Fall River. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Swanson leaves three sons, Philip W. Swanson of Somerset, MA, David Swanson of Fall River, MA, and Derek Swanson of Swansea, MA; two stepdaughters, Peggy-Anne Cabral of New Bedford, MA, and Darlene Cabral of Fall River, MA; a stepson, Thomas Cabral of Westport, MA; a brother, Bradford Swanson of Pittsfield, MA; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Gary Swanson and the stepfather of the late Douglas Cabral.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Friday, May 14, 2010, at 9:00am in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Holy Trinity Parish, 951 Stafford Rd., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be private at the request of the family.
