View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET, MA – William A. Lake, 73, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River, MA, died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Franklin P. Lake and Alice (Anthony) Marble, he was the husband of the late Patricia A. (Keyes) Lake.
A graduate of the Bristol Agricultural High School in Segregansett, MA, who majored in animal husbandry, Mr. Lake served with the Massachusetts National Guard. He began his professional life working for the State of Connecticut as a milk tester. He then worked for his family business, the Keyes Oil Co., for a few years. While working for Keyes Oil, he went to school and earned his pipe fitter license and then his first class engineer’s license. After obtaining those licenses, he went to work for the Frito Lay Company and Duro Finishing/River Textiles, retiring in 2002.
Mr. Lake was a member of the former Saint John’s Episcopal Church (now the Church of the Holy Spirit) in Fall River for many years. He was a past master of the Watuppa Lodge, a member of the King Philip Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Knights Templar and past Chief of the Camel Herders of Rhode Island Shriners.
He leaves a daughter, Katharine A. Smith of Somerset; a son, Andrew W. Lake of Fall River; a brother, Franklin J. Lake of Swansea, MA; five grandchildren, Jason W. and Justin R. Hashim, David F. Gomez, II, Rebecca L. Smith and Jonathan Lake; two great-grandchildren, Destiny and Matthew; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral Information
His funeral service will be held Friday, October 9, 2009, at 11:00AM in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 160 Rock St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and asked to come directly to the church. Burial to follow with Military Honors in the North Burying Ground in Fall River. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be held Thursday, October 8, from 4:00-7:00PM in the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA. A Masonic service will be held at 6:00PM during the calling hours in the funeral home.
