View Tribute and Sign Guestbook BERKLEY – Jeanne B. (Dupuis) Fernandes, 79, died Sunday, August 30, 2009, in the Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Theodore and Emma (Benoit) Dupuis, Jeanne was a 1946 graduate of Dighton High School and a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church in Taunton.
She and her late husband, John Fernandes, owned and operated the family business, Fernandes Farm on Jerome Street in Berkley, for more than forty-nine years. Upon retiring from the Farm, she worked for over seven years at Attleboro Medical Associates. She was active in the Berkley Lioness Club, the Berkley PTA and the Red Hat Society. She was well known for her knitting, especially for knitting over and donating to Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro 1000 baby caps for newborns. She was recognized by the hospital for having over 5000 hours of volunteering. At the Farm she enjoyed hand painting Halloween pumpkins.
She was the mother of Carol A. F. Watts of Milford, Catherine J. Silva of Berkley, Susan J. F. Stiller of Lakeville, Lynne M. Fernandes of Berkley, Christina R. “Tina” Fernandes of Berkley, Virginia N. “Vinny” Norman of Berkley, A. Michael “Mickey” Fernandes of Berkley, Thomas T. Fernandes of Berkley, and the late John Russell, Joan, Mark and Marie Fernandes. She was the mother-in-law of Richard Watts, Glenn Norman, Debra Fernandes of Plymouth and the late William Silva and Michael Stiller. Jeanne was the sister of Jacqueline Gardner, Irene Arvidson, both of Rehoboth, and the late Yvonne Carlson. Jeanne was the foster mother of William Heywood of Vermont. Jeanne was the grandmother of Thomas and Carrie Watts, Aimee, Arraon and Zachary Fernandes, Nicholas and Brett Silva, Kelsey Fernandes, Mark and Jake Wade, Aubrey, Jonathan and Kalan Norman. She was the great-great-grandmother of Nathan Silva and the aunt of several. Jeanne loved as grandchildren Jeremy, Jarod and Joshua Monast and loved the family of Barbara Morse and her children.
Funeral Information
A funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Thursday, September 3, 2009, at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in the Berkley Common Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, September 2, from 4:00-8:00PM.
