FALL RIVER – Mary (Ferreira) Sanson, 88, of Snell Street, Fall River, died on Thursday, January 3, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel A. & Sarah M. (Mello) Ferreira, Jr., she was the wife of the late John Sanson.

A graduate with the Class of 1937 of BMC Durfee High School, Mrs. Sanson was a lifelong resident of Fall River, and worked at the Isadore Settlow Manufacturing Co. for over twenty years and later at the Essex Manufacturing Co. for more than eight years.

Mrs. Sanson was a member of the Third Baptist Church, where she directed the choir, and played piano and organ there, as well as at the Portuguese Baptist Church. She also taught Sunday School at the Portuguese Baptist Church for many years. She was affiliated with Weetamoe Chapter # 57 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a past Worthy Matron, was a member of the Massachusetts State Chapter OES, Deputy grand Marshall and grand Representative of Utah; and a past member of the Fall River Chapter # 191; a past member of the Cortez Allen # 151; a member of Watuppa Grange # 365; Lecturer and Pianist- Westport Awarded 6th degree – Flora, and a past member of Senior and Junior Music Clubs.

She is survived by a son, John F. “Jack” Sanson of Fall River; two daughters, Gloria–Marie Honneyman of Fall River and Pauline L. Travis of Fall River; a brother, Edward A. Ferreira of Swansea; a sister, Esther F. Pereira of Whitehouse, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Louise DeSilva.

Funeral Information

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 10:00AM in THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, with burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
