Hilda (Freitas) Jerome

NEW BEDFORD – Hilda (Freitas) Jerome, 83, of Fairhaven, died on Thursday, December 27, 2007, after a brief illness, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Antone Jerome. Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antone and the late Irene (Medeiros) Freitas, she lived in Fairhaven for the past forty-five years, where she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

Mrs. Jerome was a stitcher at Ronnie Manufacturing in New Bedford for many years. She enjoyed reading and needle point and especially spending time with her family.

She is survived by a niece, Arlene Tavares of New Bedford; two nephews, Steve Mello of New Bedford and Robert Ferreira and his wife Maria of Fairhaven; a sister, Natalie Mello of New Bedford; her close friend, Irene Pacheco of New Bedford; three great nieces; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jerome was the aunt of the late Raymond Mello.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 9:00AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00-5:00PM.
