View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Louis W. Cardoza, 87, of Fairhaven died Thursday, May 11, 2006 in St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the loving husband of Claire M. (Beaulieu) Cardoza, they were married for 64 years.
Born April 27, 1919 in Acushnet the son of the late Joseph E. and Sara (Blais) Cardoza, he grew up in Acushnet then lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 61 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven.
Mr. Cardoza went to the Bristol Agricultural School in Dighton. During World War II, he served in the United States Air Force. After the service, he worked for My Bread Baking Company and later managed Lo-Jo Box Company at Fairhaven Lumber until his retirement. He was a licensed auctioneer and owned and operated the Old Rocking Horse Auction Gallery. Mr. Cardoza was the Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #56 out of St. Joseph's Church for over 40 years. He was the owner of the Pier Point Glass Museum in Fairhaven for five years. He enjoyed family, playing cards, and BINGO.
He is survived by his widow; two sons, Paul L. Cardoza and his wife Nancy of Newport, RI and Philip Cardoza of Fairhaven; two daughters, Claire-Ann Souza and her husband Charles of Acushnet, and Debra Fleurent of Fairhaven; two brothers, David Cardoza of New Bedford and Vince Cardoza of Florida; a sister, Rita Oliver of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Sharon, Kevin, Lynn, Kristine, Jake, and Tessa; eight great grandchildren, Benjamine, Connor, Pierce, Wyatt, Emma, Tristan, Erin, and Mark; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Charles, Randal, Joseph, and Theresa Cardoza and Alice O'Donnell.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral Monday, May 15, 2006 at 8:30 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven. Calling hours are Sunday 4-7 PM.
