ATTLEBORO – Mary (Santos) Demarais, 84, of Cummings Road, Attleboro, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Life Care Center of Attleboro. Born in Attleboro, a daughter of the late Antonio & Maria (Visitacao) Santos, she was the wife of the late Norman F. Demarais.

She was employed as a chain mender for the former Sweet Manufacturing Co. in Mansfield, now the Armburst Chain Co. of Providence, for over twelve years, before retiring in 1988. A lifelong Attleboro resident, Mrs. Demarais was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, a former volunteer usher at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC), and a member of the Attleboro YMCA.

She is survived by two sons, Norman F. Demarais, Jr., of Tucson, Arizona, and Stephen Demarais of Starkville, Mississippi; a brother, Thomas Santos of Florida; two sisters, Matilda Skinner and Olive Butterfield, both of Attleboro; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Santos and the late Joseph Santos.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 9:00AM from THE FOLEY - HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 South Main Street, Attleboro, Massachusetts, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, North Main St., Attleboro, with burial to follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be omitted.
