DIGHTON – Christiano G. Nobrega, 91, of Dighton, formerly of Fall River, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Somerset Ridge Nursing Facility in Somerset. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Antone and Maria A. (Silvia) Nobrega, he was the husband of Mary (Plinario) Nobrega, to whom he was married for more than fifty-eight years. Mr. Nobrega served his country with the U. S. Army Air Force during WWII. He earned the rank of sergeant while stationed in China, Africa, Berma and India. He returned home, following his military service, and started working as a setter for various shops in the garment industry in Fall River for several years. Later he worked for the City of Fall River as an inspector for minimum housing for several years, and was the director for eight years. While working for the city, he completed courses in public health at the University of Connecticut and the former Southeastern Massachusetts University. Mr. Nobrega was a Notary Public and a licensed realtor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Woodrow Silva Post in Tiverton, a past member of the Ward Two Democratic Committee, the VFW Rudolph Souza Post, the Tennessee Boys Athletic Club, the Fall River Sports Club, the Portuguese American Athletic Club, the Lusa American Club, and was a past president of AFSME Local 1118 in 1998. Mr. Nobrega enjoyed gardening, reading, music, and spending time with family and friends. During the holidays, Christiano was well know for his Christmas decorations, and outdoor lighting at his residence, for which he will long be remembered. In addition to his wife, Mr. Nobrega leaves three daughters, Linda M. Francoeur, RN, of Fall River, Sheila A. Beausoleil of Dighton, and Adele Kelly of South Carolina; and a sister, Beatrice Lopes of Fall River. He was the grandfather of Karl, Brett, Colby, Jade, Mya, and the late Seth Andrew, as well as the great-grandfather of Dante. Funeral InformationHis funeral will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Saint Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with full MILITARY HONORS will follow the Mass in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
