View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – James E. Kennedy, 90, of Somerset, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center in Fall River. Born in Leominster, the son of the late James and Sarah E. (Hergert) Kennedy, he was the husband of the late Louise E. (Gates) Kennedy.
A graduate of the Leominster (MA) High School Class of 1935, Mr. Kennedy then went on to serve his country during WWII with the United States Navy, earning the rank of Machinist’s Mate Third Class. After serving his country, Mr. Kennedy worked for New England Power Company for over forty years, retiring in 1982, as a start up engineer. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Wilder Lodge AF & AM in Leominster, the Shriners of North America, and the Scottish Rite Masons of Boston, as well as the National Association of Power Engineers. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Kennedy leaves two daughters, Joanne L. Collins of Rutland, MA, and Carol A. Miranda of Somerset; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Betsy A. Orne and the brother of the late Viola Cutler, Elsie Goodale, Chester, Ralph, and Andrew Kennedy.
Funeral Information
His funeral service will be held Monday, December 22, 2008, at 9:00AM in THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS., 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow with FULL MILITARY HONORS in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours with Video Photo Album will be held Sunday, December 21, from 2:00-5:00PM in the funeral home.
