View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NEW BEDFORD – Sheldon Steven Watkins, 60, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford following a brief illness. He was the husband of Christine Conway-Watkins and the father of Jamie Prata-Watkins. Born in New York, New York, the son of the late Thomas S. Watkins, Jr., and the late Pauline L. (Duarte) Watkins, he lived in New Bedford since the age of 18.
Mr. Watkins was a graduate of the Wentworth Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in electronics and computer engineering. He had worked as a computer technician at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth. He enjoyed classic automobiles, science fiction and WWII History and was an avid Chess player.
He is survived by his wife and daughter; his future son-in-law, Adam Gomes; two sons, Sheldon Steven, Jr., and Jason Thomas, both of RI; a grandson, Sheldon Steven, III; a brother, George Watkins of NY; three sisters, Camille Beeler of NY and Cheryle Gagne and Cherrie Watkins, both of New Bedford; his beloved Dachshunds, Max and Greta; and a niece and a nephew.
