View Tribute and Sign Guestbook NORTH DIGHTON – John G. Silvia, the husband of Virginia (Sousa) Silvia, died in Tufts Medical Center in Boston Thursday, evening August 13, 2009. He was stricken ill at his home in the morning and was taken to Boston by ambulance from the Morton Hospital Emergency Room. Born in Taunton, the son of the late Manuel and Julia (Rose) Silvia, he was a graduate of Taunton High School and a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church in North Dighton.
A U. S. Navy veteran of WWII, he was employed for many years at Dighton Industries and was a foreman at Princess House before retiring. He and his family had been Dighton residents since 1962. John’s greatest pleasures were his family and gardening.
Besides his wife Virginia, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Walker and her husband Richard of Lakeville, and a son, Edward Silvia and his wife Cathy of North Dighton. He was the grandfather of Chris Silvia and his wife Necia of Bloomington, IN, Susan Silva and her husband James of Assonet, and Stacey Vangsness and her husband Erik of Woodstock, CT; and the great-grandfather of Sadie, Shea, and Brynn Silvia and Braeden Silva. John was the brother of Alice Lima of North Dighton, Marion Sylvia of Middleboro and the late Edward Silvia of Dighton; as well as the uncle of several.
Funeral Information
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, North Dighton, Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at 10:00AM. Visiting hours will be Monday, August 17, from 4:00-8:00PM in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton. Interment will be private.
