SOMERSET – Rita S. (Crudele) Lachance, 89, of Wilbur Avenue, Somerset, and formerly of Highland Avenue, Fall River, died Friday, February 5, 2010, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Frank P. & Marie Antoinette (Scicienta) Crudele, she was the wife of the late Benoit Joseph Lachance.

A 1937 graduate of BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, Mrs. Lachance was employed as a clerk in the Swansea Assessor’s Office for seven years, a senior clerk in the Department of Public Welfare for Swansea and Somerset, and a principal clerk in the Department of Social Services for Fall River for more than fourteen years before retiring.

Rita was a Fall River resident most of her life, but had also been a Swansea resident from 1952 – 1978 before moving back to Fall River. Rita was also a member of the 1037 Club at Durfee and a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas P. Lachance of Somerset and Gary S. Lachance of Lewiston, Maine; a daughter, Marie L. Gillet of Fall River MA; a brother, Adam Crudele of West Hartford CT; and a sister, Angela DiStefano of Plymouth, MA. She was the grandmother of four, the great-grandmother of seven; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony Crudele, Ralph Crudele, Marcel Crudele, Joseph Crudele, Jean Glynn, Sarah Rioux, Lucy Perry, Mary Martel, Delia Fabrizio, and also the late Sister Theresa Crudele, M.P.F.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at 9:00am from THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church,120 Beattie St., Fall River, MA, with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
