Herbert F. Hartman

Herbert F. Hartman, 80, of Fairhaven died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. He was the husband of Kathleen P. (Fernandes) Hartman.

Born and brought up in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank G. and the late Henrietta (Drexler) Hartman, he lived in Fairhaven for the past 44 years. Mr. Hartman served in WWII in the Navy as a member of the Amphibious Forces. He later was the manager of the service department at Sears and Roebuck Co where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the Star of the East Masonic Lodge AF & AM, the VFW Acushnet Post and the West Island Improvement Association. Mr. Hartman enjoyed painting, gardening, cooking and quahoging. He was revered as a “Book of Knowledge” and was always lending an hand to friends and family. He lived a full life and was proud of his family and close friendships.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Scott M. Hartman and his wife Christine of Fairhaven and Neil Hartman and his wife Patricia of New Hampshire; a daughter, Cheryl A. Best of Martha's Vineyard; seven grandchildren, Christina, Michael and Jonathon Herbert Hartman all of NH, Keri Best of Martha's Vineyard and Kara Best of Fairhaven, Ryan Herbert Hartman and Kiara-Lynn Hartman both of Fairhaven and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hartman was the brother of the late Hilda Touchette.

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be Monday at 10:00 AM in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-5 PM.
