Somerset – Gladys (Colby) Walton, 97, of Somerset, died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Somerset. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late John H. and Georgianna (Heath) Colby, she was the wife of the late Alfred A. Walton. Mrs. Walton began her career working at the former Sagamore Manufacturing Company in Fall River as a cloth inspector. She then continued her work in the garment industry in Fall River as a floor worker for over twenty years before her retirement in 1976. Mrs. Walton was a member of (the Episcopal) Church of Our Saviour in Somerset, as well as the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Gladys enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends, especially babysitting children throughout the years. She is survived by her son-in-law, George L. Gesner of Somerset, MA; three grandchildren, David E. Gesner, Cynthia J. (Gesner) Dufrane, and Jane E. (Gesner) Labouliere; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as two nieces and a nephew. She was the mother of the late Joan Gesner and the sister of the late Jennie Morbeck and Alton Colby. Funeral InformationCalling hours for Mrs. Walton will be Tuesday, June 8, 2010, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA. A Funeral Mass with Requiem Eucharist will be held Wednesday, June 9, at 10:00 AM in the Church of Our Saviour, 2112 County St., Somerset, with burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. (Those attending are requested to come directly to the church Wednesday morning for the funeral Mass.)
