NEW BEDFORD – Mae R. (Peck) LaFleur, 91, formerly of New Bedford, died Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert LaFleur. Born and brought up in Ware, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late George and the late Georgianna (Gerard) Peck, she lived most of her life in New Bedford before moving to the Cedar’s in North Dartmouth where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Mrs. LaFleur was a communicant of St. Lawrence Martyr Church in New Bedford. Mae was associated with St. Luke’s Hospital for over fifty years, first working in the Dietary Department for twenty-five years and then later as a volunteer.

A big part of her life was dedicated to volunteering and helping others, even at the Cedar’s. She was an avid reader and known for her contagious laugh. Her warm smile brought joy to all those who knew her.

She is survived by two sons, Robert LaFleur of New Bedford and Ronald LaFleur and his wife Nadeen of Rochester; a daughter, Joan DeCruz and her husband Rudy of Cohassett; four grandchildren, Shawn, Suzzunne and Todd DeCruz and Flavian LaFleur; two great grandsons, Peter and Brian DeCruz; a brother, George Peck; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 9:00AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Lawrence Martyr Church, 110 Summer St., New Bedford. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery #2, New Bedford. Calling hours will be held Friday, September 18, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
