Roy H. Macomber

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook ASSONET, MA – Roy H. Macomber, 85, of Assonet, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at his residence. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Charles and Maud (Peirce) Macomber, he was the husband of the late Helen M. (Lucien) Macomber.
A 1943 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Roy was the owner of the Macomber Brother’s Oil Company in Assonet for fifty years, retiring in 1987. He was also the former Fire Chief in Assonet from 1957 to 1975. A member and past president of the Freetown Lions Club, member of the Freetown Historical Society and the Bristol County Fire Chief’s Association, Roy enjoyed listening to Dixie Land music, spending summers on his boat and at his cottage on Long Pond. He took great pride in working in his yard.
He is survived by his three daughters, Donna L. Macomber of East Freetown, MA, Susan H. Lemos and her husband William of Granby, CT, and Betty O’Leary and her husband Michael of Assonet, MA; a son, Charles J. Macomber of East Freetown, MA; a sister, Janet Padrenoss of Swansea, MA; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ruth Silvia, Rosella Bemis, Ruby Gladu, and Rufus Macomber.
Funeral Information
Calling hours for Mr. Macomber will be held Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 4:00-7:00pm in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, A funeral service will be held Friday, April 16, at 10:00am in the United Church of Assonet, 9 North Main St., Assonet, with burial to follow in the Assonet Burying Ground. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
