View Tribute and Sign Guestbook FAIRHAVEN – Maria (Melo) Filipe, 86, of Fairhaven, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Our Lady’s Haven in Fairhaven. She was the wife of the late Eduino Filipe. Born in St. Michael, the Azores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Antonio and the late Maria G. (Amaral) Melo, she came to New Bedford in 1960 and settled in Fairhaven in 1963 where she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
Mrs. Filipe was a stitcher years ago, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Noemia De Parent and Eduina Butts and her husband Steve, all of Fairhaven; a son, Antonio Filipe and his wife Sue of Acushnet; five grandchildren, Barry Filipe of Acushnet, Penny Parent of Fairhaven, Michael Marden and his wife Amy and Victoria Marden, all of New Bedford, and Taylor Butts of Fairhaven; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Antonio Melo of Canada; a sister, Noenia Medeiros of Portugal; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 9:00 AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven with Interment to follow in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford.
