View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Edward J. Ready, 78, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007, at the Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center in Fall River. Born in Fall River, the son of the late John and Lillian (Stevens) Ready, he was the husband of Barbara (Piggott) Ready, to whom he was married fifty years.
Mr. Ready graduated with the Class of 1947 of BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, and also earned a Bachelor’s degree in business from Saint Bonaventure. Mr. Ready served his country during the Korean conflict with the United States Navy. He worked as a salesman for forty years, and then for UNX Chemicals in North Carolina for twelve years before retiring several years ago.
He was a communicant of Saint Patrick’s Church in Somerset, a member of the Lions Club, the Over the Hill Gang, and Boy Scout Troop 21 in Somerset. He summered in Fairhaven for forty-five years with his family at Sconticut Neck in Fairhaven. He was an avid Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan, who also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ready is survived by a daughter, Dale Powis and her husband Michael of Rehoboth, MA; three sons, Dr. Neal Ready and his wife Lynn of Chapel Hill, NC, Robert Ready and his partner Shane, and Ted Ready of Dover, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Ryan, Elizabeth, Timothy, Ethan, and Amanda, and was also survived by his dog, Ginger. He was the brother of the late John Ready.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 10:00AM in the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in the Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
