View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET, MA – Richard Bernard Batt, 84, of North Street, Somerset, formerly of Defiance, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at his residence. He was the husband of Irene Marie (Ferreira) Batt, to whom he was married for twenty-seven years, and the husband of the late Irene Frances (Davis) Batt, to whom he was married for thirty-five years. Born in Defiance, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leo and Cora (Hasselschwardt) Batt.
Mr. Batt owned and operated the Dick Batt Carpet Company in Somerset, MA, for twenty-five years, retiring in 1985. A member of Saint Patrick’s Church in Somerset, MA, and a member of its Saint Vincent de Paul Society, he was a World War II Navy Veteran and was awarded the American Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Robert Leo Batt of Bedford, MA, Steven Patrick Batt of Dartmouth, MA, Peter Francis Batt of Assonet, MA, and Frank Morris of Fall River, MA; two daughters, Louise Darlene Miller of Augusta, Georgia, and Claire Ann DiManno of Somerset, MA; five grandchildren, Courtney Batt of New Bedford, MA, Lisa Borges of Somerset, MA, Laura Ferson of Bourne, MA, Mary Batt of Falmouth, MA, and Sheri Smith of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Ferson and Rebecca Ferson, both of Bourne, MA. Mr. Batt was the father of the late Jeffrey Joseph Batt, and the brother of the late Arthur and Kenneth Batt and Virginia Brenner.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Monday, June 9, 2008, at 9:30AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in Saint Patrick’s Church, 306 South Street, Somerset, MA. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, North County Street, Route 138, Somerset, MA. Calling hours with video photo album will be held Sunday, June 8, from 4:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
