Theresa Berthe (Blais) Escobar

Theresa Berthe (Blais) Escobar, age 91, passed away peacefully with her family at the CT Bridgeport Hospital, on November 4, 2017, under the care of Hospice. She was the daughter of the deceased Georges Eugene S. Blais from Canada and Philomène (Larouche) Blais of Fall River, MA and the Widow of Francisco Silveira Escobar Jr. She was the sister of the deceased George B. and deceased Omer R. “Lefty” Blais. Born in Fall River, she lived in Somerset, MA for 40 years.
Graduated from St. Mathieu’s Catholic School and the Dominican Academy, in Fall River, MA. She received a Medical Lab Technologist Certificate from Tufts Medical School, in Boston, MA and worked at St. Anne’s Hospital for three years. After, she worked in the Truesdale Hospital lab for the next 15 years. During her last four years there, she was the Chief Technologist, Student Instructor and the Chief of the Radioactive Isotope 131 Lab. She continued her education by attending night courses at SMU and Providence College; she received her ASCP Association of Certified Pathology.
Theresa was a devoted wife and mother. She leaves her 5 children: Dr. Francisco S. Escobar, III and his wife Constance, Dr. Michael D. Escobar and his wife Dr. Angela Colantonio, Suzanne E. Sustello and her husband, Richard F. Sustello, Paul G. Escobar and Peter J. Escobar and his wife Dr. Heather Kirkman Escobar.
Theresa also leaves 12 grandchildren: Stefanie (Cabeceiras) Lynch and her husband Michael L. Lynch, Jr., Jeffrey Cabeceiras, and Alessandra C., Patricia J., Alicia F., Francisco S, Philip, Jennifer, Nicholas, Mason, Evelyn, and Thomas Escobar’s. And one Great-Granddaughter, Regan E. Lynch.
Theresa dedicated countless hours for the Youth Group at St. Louis de France Church, in Swansea. She was a CCD Confirmation teacher and chaperon for ten years, for this she was awarded a Marian Medal from the Bishop.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, at 9 AM, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a 10 AM funeral mass, in St. Louis de France Church, Buffinton St., Swansea. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
