NEW BEDFORD – William N. Marlow, 86, of Dartmouth, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (DeMonbrun) Marlow. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Felix and the late Mary Emma (Gamble) Marlow, he settled in Dartmouth fifty years ago and had attended the Smith Mills Congregational Church. Mr. Marlow entered the U. S. Army during WWII and served in the 6th Armored Division, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He later worked as a stationary fireman at the Kilburn Mill, Quaker Oats and lastly at SMU until his retirement at age 62. He was a life member of the VFW and a longtime member of the Richard F. Howland Chapter. He is survived by two daughters, Darlene M. Wheeler of New Bedford and Marsha Mitcheson and her husband Jim of Mattapoisett; a son, William N. “Bill” Marlow, Jr., of Palm Harbor, FL; eight grandchildren, Jerry Wheeler and his wife Trisha Costa of Acushnet, Jennifer DaCosta and her husband Gene of Acushnet, James W. Mitcheson and his wife Laurie of W. Bridgewater, Ryan Mitcheson and his wife Tori of Tega Cay, SC, Nicholas Mitcheson of Fairhaven, Whitney Mitcheson of Mattapoisett, and Marissa and Christian Marlow both of Palm Harbor, FL; seven great-grandchildren, Jared Wheeler, Morgan, Lauren, James R., Gavin and Broden Mitcheson and Kyah DaCosta; a brother, Norwood Marlow of Columbia, SC; a sister, June Sacharsky of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral InformationCalling hours will be held Sunday, February 8, 2009, from 4:00-7:00PM in the DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County St., New Bedford, with a funeral to be conducted at 11:00AM in the funeral home Monday, February 9. Interment with military honors will follow the funeral at Acushnet Cemetery.
