Frances (Hendricks) King, 86, of South Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford passed away Monday, December 18, 2006, after a brief illness, in St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard King. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Marianna (Vieira) Hendricks, she was a 1938 graduate of New Bedford High School and later the Wilfred Academy in Boston. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in New Bedford and a longtime member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Catholic Women's Club.

She was formerly employed as a buyer for many years by Saltmarsh's Department store until her retirement. She enjoyed meeting and socializing with her many friends during her daily luncheons at the Hazelwood Park Senior Center.

She is survived by a her daughter, Marianne Jordan and her husband Paul with whom she lived, a daughter, Rosemary Johnston and her husband David of Baltimore, MD and a son, Michael J. King of Surprise, AZ; Sister of Evelyn Hendricks of South Dartmouth, Isabel Andrade of Freetown and Eleanor Morris and her husband Raymond of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Matthew Jordan and his wife Jennifer of Raynham, Mark Jordan of Baltimore, MD, Stephen Bender and his wife Jessica of Baltimore, MD and Michael J. King, Jr. and his wife Lauren of Surprise, AZ; four great grandchildren, Aria Jordan, Kyle Bender and Haley and Sydney King; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. King was the sister of the late Mary, Manuel and William Hendricks, Hazel Thomas, Alice Fraga and Elsie Espinola.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be Friday at 9:30 AM from the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, New Bedford. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 PM.
