Margarida Tavares

Margarida (Bettencourt) Tavares, 89 of New Boston Road, Fall River formerly of Linden Street, Fall River and Old Westport Road, Dartmouth died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Kimwell Nursing Home she was the wife of the late Manuel J.B. Tavares. Born March 7, 1917 in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Jose Alves and Maria (Oliveira) Bettencourt.

Mrs. Tavares had been raised in Mosteiros, Azores and in 1938 came to Bristol, RI; and Westport, MA; before setteling in Fall River. She had worked in the Garment Industry for Mills in the Fall River area. She had also worked for the city of Fall River as a housekeeper, at the former Hussey Hospital and the former Children's Home on Robeson Street. She enjoyed Gardening and Drawing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them very much.

She leaves one son, Manuel Tavares Jr., of Fall River, MA; two daughters, Mary C. Voas of Oxford, MA; Dr. Laura Bomback of Swansea, MA; one brother, Jose Bettencourt of Saint Michael, Azores, two sisters, Leonilda Maldonado of Pawtucket, RI; Donatilde Medeiros of Saint Michael, Azores, nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great grand children and one great great granddaughter. Mrs. Tavares was the sister of the late Francisco Bettencourt, Maria Andrade, Olinda Medeiros.

Funeral Information

Her Funeral will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 9:00 am from the HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., FALL RIVER to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover Street, Fall River. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Calling Hours with Video Tribute will be held Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm in the funeral home.
