NEW BEDFORD – Evangeline "Vangie" (Leandro) Vasconcellos, 92, of New Bedford, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Ernest A. “Val” Vasconcellos. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel J. and the late Evangeline (Rogers) Leandro, she was a lifelong resident of the city and a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Vangie worked as a stitcher in the area garment industry, retiring from Tim’s Sportswear. She was a Past President of the Moose Golden Agers, a member of the South End Golden Agers, the Portuguese American Civic League, Dartmouth Chapter, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She is survived by a son, Dennis S. Vasconcellos of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Lisa D. Long of Elysburg, PA; three great-grandsons, Mark, Matthew and Andrew Villeneuve, all of Elysburg, PA. Mrs. Vasconcellos was the last of eight children. Funeral InformationHer funeral will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 9:00 AM, from THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
