TAUNTON – Robert J. VanCott, 71, died at his home Sunday, February 24, 2008, following a period of failing health. Born in Boston, the son of the late Leroy and Laura (Rutherford) VanCott, he was educated in Randolph Public Schools. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A former resident of Berkley, he had been a Taunton resident since 1985.

Mr. VanCott was employed for thirty-nine years by the Raytheon Corporation as an electronic technician. He was an avid ten-pin bowler, who enjoyed fishing, painting, gardening, traveling to Foxwoods, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Laura Silver and her husband Jeffrey of Taunton, and Colleen Lonergan and her husband Gary of Saunderstown, RI. He was the father of the late Thomas VanCott. He was the former husband of Sheila VanCott of Attleboro; and the grandfather of Jessica, Sarah, and Spensor Machado; Hayley, Trevor, Ian, and MacKenzie Lonergan; and Melissa, Corey, Christopher VanCott. He was the brother of the late Ruth Trainer, Alvan VanCott and Warren VanCott. He was the dear brother-in-law of Barbara VanCott of Randolph and Clara VanCott of Florida.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of Memorialization with his cremains present in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 12:00 noon to 1:00PM. Interment of his cremains will be held later at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
