Walter K. "Wally" Scieska

NEW BEDFORD – Walter K. "Wally" Scieszka, 90, of Fairhaven, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Pereira) Scieszka. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and the late Helena (Izyk) Scieszka, he lived there before settling in Fairhaven in 1974. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven.

Mr. Scieszka served in the Civilian Conservation Corp prior to entering the U. S. Army in 1941. He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and he received one bronze battle star. After his military service, he worked at Atlas Tack before he started working as a house painter. He was a member of the IUPAT #691 Painters Union and the Andrew Dahill VFW Post #1531. Wally loved to fish and hunt.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda England and her husband Raymond of Dartmouth; two sons, Peter Scieszka and his wife Kathleen of New Bedford and Jon A. Scieszka and his wife Kimberly of Fairhaven; two sisters, Daisy White of Wisconsin and Adella Arruda of New Bedford; eight grandchildren, Raymond England, Jr., of Pawtucket, RI, Pamela England of Ohio, Christopher and Kimberly Scieszka, both of New Bedford, Katherine and Carolyn Scieszka, both of Fairhaven, Cheryl Silva of New Bedford and Colleen Silva of Brockton; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Bill, Thaddeus and young Thaddeus Scieszka and Elizabeth DeMaria.

Funeral Information

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and a Memorial Mass will be held Friday, July 17, 2009, at 10:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven. Interment with military honors will follow the Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:30PM. The family will receive visitors at the church, one hour prior to the Mass. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
