John E. Shea

Shea., 84, of Fall River passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River he was the husband of fifty eight years to Frances A. (Whalon) Shea. Born in Fall River, MA on January 31, 1921 the son of the late Michael J. and Mary (Cusack) Shea.
Mr. Shea graduated from BMC Durfee High School class of 1938, he then served his country during WWII and the Korean conflict with the United States Navy a member of task force thirty one he was one of the first Americans to participate in the initial landing at Yokosuka Naval base which led to the occupation of the Tokoyo Bay area which led to the surrender of the Japanese. After the war he worked for the former New England Telephone Company as an equipment installer for thirty years, while working for the phone company he also worked as a salesman for the former Anderson Little in Fall River for many years also he retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Naval Reserves, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Telephone pioneers, and the electrical workers union. In his youth he played baseball and basketball for Saint Mary’s in the Catholic Youth Organization league, he also played semi pro football with the Corky Row Club in Fall River where he was a member for sixty years and the bar manager for several years, member of the YMCA in Fall River and a communicant of the former Saint Patrick Church now Good Shepherd Parish in Fall River, He was an avid Yankee’s and Giants fan and swimmer.
Survivors beside his wife are two daughters Susan A. McDonald and Ellen L. Shea both of Fall River and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eileen M. Warner and William E. Shea.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 8:45am from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am in Good Shepherd Parish 1598 South Main St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Fall River. Calling hours with a video photo album are Friday, September 2, 2005 from 4-8pm.
