View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Francis Kenney., 81, of Pleasant Street in Assonet passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home in New Bedford, MA he was the husband of fifty seven years to Celia (Moskal) Kenney.
Mr. Kenney was a graduate of Somerset High School. He was a veteran of WWII with the United States Navy submarine division, and was a witness at the Japanese surrender at Tokyo Bay. He was the maintenance supervisor for the former Shell Oil Co. in Fall River for thirty five years before retiring in 1986. Mr. Kenney was the board of health agent in Freetown for many years. He was a member of he VFW Post 6643 in East Freetown, MA the US Coast Guard auxiliary floatilla 65, the Acushnet river safe boaters club, an avid fisherman, and boater. He also was a communicant of Saint Bernard Church in Assonet.
Survivors beside his wife are a daughter Kathleen A. Kenney of Raynham, MA a brother Joseph Kenney of Pittsburgh, PA Mary Haggerty and Ann Kenney both of Somerset, MA also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Francis Kenney Jr. and brother of the late Margaret Dubois, Raymond Kenney.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 9am from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Louis de France Church 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Somerset.
