June 24, 1915 - August 14, 2005

Harriet E. Irvin, 90, formerly of Union St. in New Bedford, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Hathaway Manor in New Bedford where she had lived there since April.

Born in New Bedford June 24, 1915, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Baumgartel) Irvin, she was a life long resident of the city. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, New Bedford.

Miss Irvin graduated from New Bedford High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital and was later the head nurse for Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Miss Irvin volunteered for over 20 years at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was a former member of the Women’s Investment Club at the YWCA. Miss Irvin was a member of the Industrial Nurse’s Association. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and loved the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret L. Brightman of East Freetown; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Irvin of South Dartmouth; three nieces, Betsy, Jane, and Priscilla; a nephew, James; a great nephew, Edward; and two special friends, Nancy Magliocca and Carlene Ventura. She was the sister of the late Laura M. Riendeau, the late Florence C. Irvin, and the late Arthur W. and the late Edward J. Irvin.

Funeral Information

Her funeral service will be Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 1 PM in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Interment will follow in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
