Joseph DeGrasse

Joseph DeGrasse, 92, of North Providence and formerly of Fairhaven died Friday, August 5, 2005 in the Golden Crest Nursing Home, North Providence. He was the widower of Hilda J. (Roderick) DeGrasse.

Born September 6, 1912, in Middleboro the son of the late Joseph DeGrasse, Sr. and the late Mary (Fernandes) DeGrasse, he lived in the Hopkins Manor Nursing Home in North Providence for the past three years. Prior to that, he lived in the Charlesgate Apartments for seven years having come from Fairhaven where he lived for 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven.

Mr. DeGrasse worked as a sheet rock installer with Gherhard Boucher for 20 years. He loved gardening and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Barboza of North Providence, RI and Diane Borges of Fairhaven; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frank Andrade, the late Ernest Andrade, the late Alvaro Andrade, the late Manuel DeGrasse, and the late Amelia Pina.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be Monday, August 8, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon in St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Sunday, August 7, 2005 from 5-8 PM.
