Joseph AndradeNovember 23, 1917 - June 18, 2005
Joseph Andrade, 87, formerly of Melville Towers, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Born November 23, 1917 in New Bedford the son of the late Jules "Julio" and Louisa (Lopes) Andrade, he was a life long resident of the city. Mr. Andrade was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church, New Bedford. Mr. Andrade worked as a shoe assembler for Freeman Shoe Company. He later worked as a fish cutter in a processing plant. He was very proud to have received an official recognition, April 22, 2000, from the New Bedford City Council for his many years and contributions to Cape Verdean music. He was a member of the Al Lopes Band as well as many other bands for many decades. He loved hanging with his friends in front of Johnny Papas Store as well as spending time with his friends from the Melville Towers. Mr. Andrade also loved to spend time with his grand children. He is survived by three sons, Robert Andrade of Fall River, David Andrade and his wife Maria, and Scott Lopes all of New Bedford; three daughters, Georgette Correia, Anna Marie Lopes, and Urana Lopes all of New Bedford; a sister, Mary Santos of New Bedford; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. He was the brother of the late Joseph Andrade. Funeral InformationHis funeral will be Friday, June 24, 2005 at 8:00 AM from the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Assumption Church, New Bedford.
