Clarence R. Edwards, 81, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 in Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home. He was the widower of Adelaide J. (Tapper) Edwards. Born in New Bedford on September 22, 1923 the son of the late Charles and Edith (St. Aubin) Edwards, he grew up in New Bedford before moving to Connecticut and had lived in Fairhaven for the last 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven.

Mr. Edwards served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked in Marine construction for various companies. Prior to that, he was a commercial fisherman. He also was involved in aqua farming locally and in Florida. He was a member of the VFW Tuttle Post in Acushnet.

He is survived by two sons, Michael Edwards of Acushnet and Daniel Edwards of Fairhaven; three daughters, Susan Arbec of Fairhaven, Marcia Fernandes of Fairhaven, and Margaret Hastings of Acushnet; a brother, Roy Edwards of Brockton; a sister, Louise Hunt of Dartmouth; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Luther Edwards, Lester Edwards, George Edwards, Norman Edwards, and Leo Edwards.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 9:00 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairhaven. Interment will be in Naskatucket Cemetery, Fairhaven. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 17, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
