George A. Vanasse Sr.

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook George A. Vanasse, Sr., 72, of Davol St. Fall River, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Sheila I. (Daley) Vanasse of Fall River. They were married for 19 years. Born on November 1, 1932, in Fall River, he was a son of the late Roland and Edith (Atterbury) Vanasse.
He was raised in Fall River, and resided in Swansea for many years. He also lived in Sharon and Somerset for several years. Mr. Vanasse was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a baker throughout his life. In his early years he worked for his late father. He later worked for the Vienna Baking Company in Barrington, RI, for many years, and also at the Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River for 11 years, before his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at Auclair's Market on County St. in Somerset.
He was a member of the Church of Our Savior in Somerset for many years. He was the Past President of the Somerset Lions Club. He was very active with the lions for many years. He was a member of the Swansea American Legion Post # 303. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at various area golf courses.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George Vanasse Jr., of Fall River, three daughters, Deborah MacKenzie, Lori Ashley, and Lou-Ann Vanasse, all of Swansea. He was the father of the late Donna Vanasse. He is also survived by his step-children, Jeffery Cartier, of Greeneville, RI, and Mary-Lou Cartier, of Fall River, his former wife, Beverly (Read) Foran, of Swansea, a sister, Marjorie Williams, of Somerset, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Roland Vanasse.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 9:30 am from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Requiem Eucharist at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Savior, 2112 County St., Rte. 138, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Calling hours are Tuesday, MAy 17, 2005 from 4-8 PM.
