Marcus Arnold Rhodes, Jr. husband for 57 years of Dorothy Pegram (Williams) Rhodes. He was born and educated in Taunton, a 1935 Grad of Taunton High and a 1936 Deerfield Academy and 1940 Grad of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He died after long illness in Wedgemere Rehab and Nursing Center Taunton on May 8, 2005. He was 88 years old. He was the co-owner, assistant manager and treasurer of M M Rhodes and Sons, Co in Taunton for over 50 years. He ran the family business with his brother Stephen Rhodes of Taunton, going to the business every day until stopped due to illness. He was lifetime member of Pilgrim Congregational Church in Taunton; where he was a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, choir member and will be remembered for leading the children in “Jingle Bells” to usher Santa in to the Annual Christmas pagent. He served 14 years on the Taunton School Committee and was a member of the first school committee at Bristol-Plymouth High School. He was a past president and director of the Old Colony Historical Society, a member of the Taunton Civic Chorus and was member of a barbershop quartet. He enjoyed a love of boats and sailing in Mt Hope Bay and Cape Cod. During WWII he was stationed in the Phillipines as a first lieutenant in the Army serving with an engineering unit. Besides his wife Dorothy and his brother Stephen, he is survived by 1 daughter Elizabeth G. Jenzen of Groose Point,MI and 3 Sons George Rhodes of Taunton, Timothy Rhodes of Attleboro and Marcus Rhodes of Taunton; 4 grandchildren several nieces,nephews and cousins. Funeral InformationFuneral and interment services will be held at the convenience of the family with a Memorial Service in the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Taunton at a day and date to be announced.
