View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Shirley (Brooks) Peach-Hunt of Wareham died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Robert M. Hunt.
Born in Cromford, Darbyshire, England, the daughter of Chrissie Brooks of Wareham and the late Clifford F. S. Brooks. She graduated from Anthony Gell School in England and came to Wareham at the age of 18.
Shirley was a person that touched the lives of everyone she met. Her giving nature was just a natural part of her personality. Her close friends and family called her the original Martha Stewart because of her ability to excel in every one of her hobbies, whether it be cooking, planting, knitting, sewing, her artwork, and anything else she would attempt. She often would speak to Martha Stewart in Connecticut and discuss various topics. Shirley especially loved her garden and watching her birds. She was also known for being a generous hostess at her elaborate garden parties complete with fantastic food, music and friendship.
Shirley was the owner of the River View Lounge in Wareham, the London Grille in New Bedford and worked as an account executive for various cosmetic companies until her illness.
Survivors include her beloved husband who dedicated their entire married life to giving her his love and devotion up until the moment she passed on; two daughters, Tamara Peach and her fiancé, Ken Snyder, Diane Squillante and her husband George both of Wareham; two grandchildren, Andrea and Laura Millet; a sister, Eileen St. Pierre of Marion; several nieces; and her best friend "Maizie" Betty Furness of New Bedford.
