Ruth M. Hart

April 25, 1924 - March 28, 2005

Ruth M. (Mendell) Hart, 80, of Fairhaven died Monday, March 28, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of John W. Hart.

Born April 25, 1924 in Mattapoisett the daughter of the late John D. Mendell, Sr. and the late Mary H. (Osborn) Mendell she lived in New Jersey, New York State, California, and Massachusetts.

Mrs. Hart was a Registered Nurse and graduated from the Genesee School of Nursing in Rochester, NY in 1945. She served in the US Cadet Corps during World War II and returned to the Boston are and was employed as charge nurse at the New England Deaconess Hospital. After her marriage in 1949, she worked part time in Boston and Lynn. After employment in California, she returned to Massachusetts where she received her license for nursing home administration and retired in 1989 after47 years of nursing. Her last place of employment was the Mattapoisett Nursing Home.

She was an active member of the Fort Phoenix Post 2892 Auxillary having served as President for several terms, Post District #6 President, Post 70 CA President and also served as chairman for many state chairmanships.

She is survived by two nephews, Thomas Mendell and his wife Barbara of Fairhaven and Peter D. Mendell also of Fairhaven; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Mendell of Rio Vista, CA; two great nephews; and a great niece. She was the sister of the late John D. Mendell, Jr.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial calling hours Monday, April4, 2005 from 5-8 PM in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. Burial will be private.
