Evelyn H. (Janak) Gelette, 94, of Fairhaven, formerly of New Bedford died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Gelette.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Emmanuel P. and the late Lydia (Penzel) Janak, she lived most of her life in New Bedford before she entered Alden Court four years ago. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Bedford where she was the former Secretary Treasurer of the Sunday School and Chairman of the Flower/ Sunshine Committee.

A 1928 graduate of New Bedford High school, Mrs. Gelette later worked at the Brockton Public Market. In her younger years she was a member of the Helen Hughes Club at the YWCA, a Girl Scout Leader and belonged to sewing club.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Trahan and her husband Richard of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Sherri Lynn Medeiros and her husband Robert of New Bedford; three great grandchildren, Jennifer, Tyler and Robert Frazier all of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Gilette was the sister of the late Harold P. Janak.

Funeral Information

Mrs. Gelette's funeral service will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 10:00 AM in the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 5, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
