Robert O. Mathieu

Robert O. Mathieu, 73, of Courtney Street in Fall River formally of Country Drive in Somerset, MA for twenty seven years passed away suddenly on Monday, March 28, 2005 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of twenty seven years to Claire M. (Bernier-Goddu) Mathieu and the former husband of the late Yvonne (Froment) Mathieu. 

Mr. Mathieu was born in Fall River, MA on May 29, 1931 the son of the late Ovila and Eva (Moreau) Mathieu, he attended the former Msgr. Prevost high school in Fall River and then went to work as a truck driver for the former Gamache trucking in Fall River and Hemingway trucking in East Providence, RI. Mr. Mathieu then went to work as a mechanic for McLean trucking in Pawtucket, RI for nineteen years he then took over the family business in 1971 Mac’s Auto service in Somerset which he owned and operated until he retired in 1989.

He was a communicant of Saint Louis de France Church in Swansea a member of the Knight of Columbus Bishop James Cassidy Council 3669 in Swansea, State community director for the Knights of Columbus, former district deputy, a fourth degree knight, and past faithful navigator, also a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks #118.

Survivors beside his wife are two daughters Claudette D. Alberto of Westport, MA Patricia L. Ford of Dighton, MA six sons Robert R. Mathieu of Tiverton, RI Ronald J. Mathieu of San Diego, California Roger N. Mathieu, Raymond R. Goddu II, Michael D. Goddu of Somerset, MA and Stephen S. Goddu of Mashpee, MA a brother Gilbert Mathieu of Somerset, MA thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
He was the brother of the late Norman Mathieu.

Funeral Information

Mr. Mathieu's funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, 2005 at 9am from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA  (508 672-3572) followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Louis de France Church 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, burial to follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery Somerset. Calling hours with Video photo album will be Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 5-8pm.
