July 25, 1916 - March 20, 2005

Mary Ruland Hathaway, 88, of Johnson City, formerly of Windsor, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005. She was born on July 25, 1916 in Nineveh, N.Y. She is survived by her husband, Clyde Hathaway of the Hilltop Retirement Center, and their three children, Paul and Annette Hathaway Greenblatt, Forestville, Calif., Vincent and Sally Hathaway Penella, Pepperell, Mass., and Glenn and Patrice Hathaway, Spicewood, Tex. She is also survived by one sister, Lillian Silvernail Wilson, Ithaca, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jamie Hathaway Goldstein and wife Amy Bowen, Santa Barbara, Calif., Dana Hathaway Goldstein and husband John Stanley, Oakland, Calif., Nick Penella, Manchester, N.H., Luke Penella, Pepperell, Mass., and Ann Hathaway, Spicewood, Tex.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Windsor First United Methodist Church.

Mary graduated from Oneonta State University and taught school in the area for many years. She taught at State Line, Harpursville and Johnson City, retiring in 1973. She was active in the Eastern Star, Johnson City PTA and the Johnson City Study Club. She also served as chairperson of the Women's Guild of Hilltop Retirement Center during its formative years. The family wishes to thank the staff of Hilltop Retirement Center and James G. Johnston Nursing Home for their excellent and dedicated care.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 23 at 1 p.m. from the Windsor First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
