Philip “Mike” Salwan, 85, of North Main St., Fall River, died Wednesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Alice V. (Arruda) Salwan.

Born on November 8, 1919, in Fall River, he was the son of the late Said and Narzley (Coriaty) Salwan. He was a lifelong resident of Fall River.

Mr. Salwan served in the United States Army.In his early years, he worked as a self-employed carpenter and contractor in the Fall River area and later worked for several Boston-area companies. He finished his career by working with A & J Construction Company in Fall River.

Mr. Salwan was a communicant of St. Anthony of the Desert Church in Fall River.

Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Medeiros, and her husband, Ronald, of Swansea, Vivian Fairhurst, and her husband, Clayton of Berkley, and Deborah Hazel, and her husband, Kenneth, of North Dighton, and a son, Norman G. Salwan, of Fall River. He was the father of the late Philip Salwan, Jr. He was the brother of Fred Salwan, of Ft. Myers, Florida, Nabeha Rashad, of East Providence, RI, Edna Albert, Cumberland, RI, and the late Norman Salwan, Rose Bockish, Lecza Shaker, and Emily Coriaty. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews

Funeral Information

Mr. Salwan's funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 am from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am in St. Anthony of the Desert Church, 300 North Eastern Ave., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.

Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA. 02720. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-6 PM.
