NEW BEDFORD – Florinda (Perry) Encarnacao, 88, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford. She was the wife of George M. Encarnacao. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Victor and the late Lucy (Melo) Perry, and lived in Dartmouth before settling in Rochester in 1971. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rochester where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Mrs. Encarnacao was a cashier for many years at Foodmart in New Bedford until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed making arts and crafts such as braided rugs and Nantucket baskets. She was a marvelous seamstress and enjoyed knitting hats for the soldiers in Iraq and for new babies at Tobey and Charlton Hospitals. She would always contribute to care baskets that the church would mail. Mrs. Encarnacao loved animals and gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. One of her greatest joys was going to the Rochester Bakery and having breakfast with Howie and Linda Plaud. She is survived by her husband; a son, Kenneth Encarnacao of Dartmouth and his fiancé, Bonnie J. Souza of New Bedford; a daughter, Pamela J. Robinson and her husband Oren of Rochester; a brother, Raymond Perry and his wife Lillian of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Michael P. Encarnacao, Sharon Perry, Jonathan S. Simpson and Melissa Longuemare; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral InformationA memorial service will be held Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 1:00PM in the First Congregational Church in Rochester.
