James M. Read Jr., 92 years old, died on Monday, September 4, 2006 in the Taunton Nursing Home. Born in Taunton, a son of the late James and Jean (Ure) Read, he was educated in Taunton Schools.

He was a retired shipper for Olin Chemical Co in Assonet and had previously worked at Mt Hope Finishing Co., in North Dighton and Thompson Chemical Co., in Attleboro. He enjoyed traveling and at the age of 82 climbed an Alaskan glacier.

He was the husband of the late Marjorie (West) Read and former husband of Beulah (Mann) (Read) Gavin of Taunton. He is the father of Carol Gonsalves Souza of Middleboro and her husband Frank; Donna Lavigne of Plymouth and her husband George and Richard Read of Middleboro and his wife Audrey; brother of Robert Read of NH and grandfather of Jay and David Gonsalves of Taunton; George and Todd Lavigne of Plymouth, Eric Lavigne of Warwick,RI; Cindy LaFluer of Taunton, Cheryl Lee of Assonet and the late Ronald Read; great grandfather of 11 and great great grandfather of 1.

Funeral Information

Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave.,(Route 138 South) Taunton on Friday at 12Noon. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment Westville Cemetery.
