WAREHAM – Everett J. Macomber, Jr., 81, of Fairhaven, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Lorraine B. (Wordell) Macomber. Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Everett J. and the late Elizabeth (Kemnitzer) Macomber, he was a lifelong resident of Fairhaven and a former member of the First Congregational Church of Fairhaven.

Mr. Macomber served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII and later worked as a correctional officer for the Department of Correction of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Norfolk, Bridgewater and Plymouth correctional facilities. He and his brother were the original owners of Mac’s Soda Bar on Sconticut Neck. Mr. Macomber served nine years on the Board of Public Works in Fairhaven and later as a selectman, where he was elected in 1978, 1981 and 1984. He was a member of the George H. Taber Masonic Lodge AF & AM in Fairhaven and mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. Soares and her companion Raymond Hebert of Fairhaven, and Jane J. Salvail and her husband Paul of West Wareham; two granddaughters, Jennifer Salvail of Wareham and Carrie Cunha of New Bedford; three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Paul Simmons of Fairhaven; two sisters-in-law, Judith Wordell of Fairhaven and Marcia Wordell of Mattapoisett; a cousin, Irving Macomber; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Macomber was the father of the late Russell and Charles Macomber and the brother of the late Clifton Macomber, Louise Garside and Frances Simmons.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and private services will be conducted under the direction of THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, to whom the arrangements for Mr. Macomber have been entrusted.
