Gordon W. Barr

NORTON – Gordon W. Barr, 73, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, in the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket, following a period of failing health. Born in Taunton, son of the late Lemley and Doris (Paquin) Barr, he was the husband of Sandra (MacFarlane) Barr, with whom he shared a forty-seven year marriage.

Gordon was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and was a USAF veteran. He was a member of Union Congregational Church in Taunton. For more than twenty years he was a custodian for the Town of Norton School Department, and previously had worked at Reed and Barton in Taunton.

Gordon was an avid NASCAR fanm attending races all over the country. He was also a fan of all the Boston sports teams. He and his wife were residents of Norton for over 30 years before he became a resident of Haven Health Nursing Home in Pawtucket six years ago.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Christine Barr of Norton, Gary Barr of North Attleboro, and Natalie Vargas of Norton. He was the grandfather of Brodey, Mason and Tanner Barr and the brother of the late Donald Barr. He was also the uncle of several.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 7:30 PM. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:30 PM, prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date in Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
