Genevieve A. (Ferreira) Germain

TIVERTON – Genevieve A. (Ferreira) Germain, 84, of Hancock St., Tiverton, RI, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Antone & Gertrude (Rogers) Ferreira, she was the wife of the late Camile A. Germain and also the former wife of the late Robert H. Carlson.

In addition to her primary role as a homemaker, Mrs. Germain also worked for the Rehoboth School Department in the lunch program. She was a twenty-seven resident of Tiverton, having relocated from Rehoboth, where she was a member of the Hornbine Baptist Church of Rehoboth, enjoyed playing Bingo, taking trips to Foxwoods, and spending time with family and friends.

She was the first president of the PTA at the former Ralph M. Small School in Fall River. She was affectionately called “Mrs. Gen” by the students. She was a foster grandmother at Tiverton Public Schools, and loved the kids at all the schools with whom she was involved. She loved to dance, enjoyed cats, was an avid bird watcher, had a great sense of humor, drew pleasure from reading, working crossword puzzles, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune. She was a member of the Nite Owls Bowling League and had been a Red Cross Volunteer during WWII.

Mrs. Germain is survived by four sons, Robert D. Carlson and his wife Donna of West Hartford, CT, Gary S. Carlson of Warren, RI, Gregory S. Germain and his wife Karen of Marstons Mills, MA, and Brian A. Germain and his wife Amy of Portsmouth, RI; two daughters, Deborah J. Goetz and her husband Donald of Tiverton, RI, and Brenda F. Ritz and her husband Gary of Fall River; two brothers, Edward Ferreira of Swansea, MA, and David Ferreira of Westport, MA; as well as a sister, Ruth Oliveira of Tiverton, RI. She left seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and was the sister of the late Daniel Ferreira.

Funeral Information

Her funeral service will be held Friday, January 9, 2009, at 12:00 Noon in THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, followed by burial, which will be private.
