Rita Eileen "Nana" (Flannery) Machado

TAUNTON – Rita Eileen "Nana" (Flannery) Machado, 85, died Thursday, August 26, 2010, after a brief illness in the Taunton Nursing Home. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Michael and Annie (Mullen) Flannery, she was the wife of Albert F. Machado of Taunton. Rita was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church.

She was formerly employed as a graphic artist for Ad A Day and formerly worked for Pearl Works, both in Taunton. She was a member of the Weir Corp, the Taunton Democratic City Committee, an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed playing BINGO at the Taunton Boys and Girls Club, visiting casinos, and volunteering at various nursing homes.

She sang and danced with the Ba Ha Brothers all the way to Key West where she sang her favorite song, “Cowboy Sweetheart,” with Yankee Jack and the Ba Ha’s. Her favorite thing to do with her husband was to take their grandchildren on Valentine’s weekend to the Sheraton-Mansfield Hotel.

Besides her husband Albert of Taunton, she is survived by a son, Richard Machado and his wife Donna; and her daughters, Kathleen Machado and her husband Elmer, Ann Hebert and her husband Peter, Ginny Machado, and Rose Eigginbotham and her husband Eric, all of Taunton. She was the grandmother of Chris Machado, Laurie Frenette and her husband Sean, Lisa DeMello and her husband Josh, Tricia Hebert, Joey Noberini, II, Kelly Hebert, Kevin Machado and his wife Sherri, and the late Seth Higginbotham. She was also the great-grandmother of eight.

Rita was the sister of Marion Pearson of West Roxbury and the late Anna, Kathleen Flannery, Agnes Kelly and her husband John, John, Charles, Jim, Richard “Buddy” and his wife Beverly, Arthur and Phyllis Machado and John and Pal Machado and Robert Pearson. She was the sister-in-law of Libby, Theresa and Vivian Flannery. She was also the sister-in-law of the late Anna and John B. Gonsalves, who were like parents to her and her husband, Albert. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Monday, August 30, 2010, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton. At 7:00 PM a Time of Remembrance will be offered by the family.
