ASSONET – Florence I. (Cloughtery) Mallen, 94, of North Main St. in Assonet, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Boston, a daughter of the late Patrick & Mary (Coyne) Clougherty, she was the wife of the late John V. Mallen.

She was an accounts receivable clerk for the former Cote Motors in Boston for many years before retiring in 1952. A resident of Assonet since 1975, Mrs. Mallen had come from Milton, MA, where she made her home for more than thirty-seven years prior to moving to Assonet.

She was a parishioner at St. Bernard’s Church, Assonet, where she was a corresponding secretary for the Women’s Guild at St. Bernard’s, corresponding secretary for the Assonet Tuesday Club, as well as the Freetown Historical Society.

She was the mother-in-law of Joseph R. Poisson of Westport and the mother of the late Jean Poisson. She was the sister of the late James, Paul, Joseph Clougherty, Sr., Marion dePaul (Religious Sister), Winifred Sullivan, Julie Gleason, and Anna Connors.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 8:30AM from THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Bernard’s Church, 32 S. Main St., Assonet, with burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning from 8:30 – 9:30AM in the funeral home.
