Dorothy (Horton) Vander, 81, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Sippican Healthcare Center, she was the widow of Milton T. Vander.

Born in New Bedford the daughter of the late William Tobey and Agnes (Houghton) Horton, she was raised in the city. Mrs. Vander later moved to Plymouth where she lived for approximately 30 years and most recently lived in Fairhaven. She was a longtime member of Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Vander graduated from Kenyon Business School. She was a member of the Rainbow Girls where she was a Worthy Advisor, the Junior Women's Club of New Bedford, and the Little Red School House Craft Guild of Plymouth which raised money for the benefit of Children with disabilities. She enjoyed sewing and will be remembered as an avid seamstress and knitter. Her great love was for children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Noel T. Vander of Ohio; a daughter, Carole V. Lewis of New Hampshire; two sisters, Shirley Noyes of Florida and Marilyn Hackney of Washington; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral Information

Her funeral service will be Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church, Acushnet. Interment will follow in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet. Arrangements are by the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford.
